Will you be showing films in Norway?
If you or your organization distributes films to movie theatres you are a cinema film distributor. A cinema film distributor is responsible for complying with two important rules before films are shown in movie theatres.
All films must be registered with the Norwegian Media Authority
A form must be completed for each film. Use the electronic form you will find in the link to the right under the form page for films and video (Registration form ME-2001).
There is no charge for registration. Note: Films that are registered only must be shown with an 18-year age limit in movie theatres.
If a film is to be shown to persons under 18, it must be assessed by the Norwegian Media Authority
If you want your film to be shown to persons under 18, it must be assessed by the Norwegian Media Authority, which will then stipulate an age limit for the film. This assessment is subject to a fee, cf. Section 4-5 of the Regulations relating to films and videograms. The fee is 0.9% of net ticket sales after 30 days from the opening date. The minimum fee is, however, NOK 3 000 and the maximum fee is NOK 70 000.
If you want an age assessment, checkmark this on the form.
The form to be completed can be found under "Links" in the menu to the right. The form you are to use is called the form for registering films for viewing (ME-2001). For reporting net sales on which the fee is calculated, you must complete form ME-2007 Reporting of net sales of cinema film.
