Film on cinemas in Norway

Publisert 17.04.2012

Do you intend to show film on cinemas in Norway?

If you or your organisation delivers film to cinemas in Norway which the public can see in open viewings in exchange for payment, then you are a cinema film distributor. A cinema film distributor is responsible for complying with two important rules before showing the films in cinemas.

1. All films must be registered with the Norwegian Media Authority.

One form for each film must be completed and sent to: The Norwegian Media Authority, Nygata 4, 1607 Fredrikstad, or via e-mail: post@medietilsynet.no, or fax: +47 69 30 12 01. Registration is free of charge. Note: Films that have only been registered must be shown with an age limit of 18 in cinemas.

2. If a film is to be shown to persons under the age of 18 years, then the Norwegian Media Authority must assess the film.

If you want to show the film to persons under the age of 18, then the Norwegian Media Authority must assess the film and then set an age limit. This costs NOK 22.50 per minute of film.

If the distributor wants an age assessment, indicate on the form, along with the number of copies for distribution.

The form for completion can be found under "Links " in the menu on the right. The form is called "skjema for registrering av film for visning (ME-2001)".

Contact us on telephone +47 69 30 12 00 or post@medietilsynet.no if you have any questions.
