Spot checks

The Norwegian Media Authority can carry out spot checks of videograms that are submitted for registration, cf. Section 7 of the Act relating to films and videograms.

The videogram must be submitted no later than one week following the distributor receiving an order from the Norwegian Media Authority, see Section 7-8 of the Regulations relating to films and videograms.

The distributor is responsible for ensuring that films that are registered for sale and rental do not violate Section 382 of the Criminal Code and Sections 204 and 204a of the Criminal Code relating to violence and pornography. If in doubt as regards the content, the distributor can ask the Norwegian Media Authority to assess the videogram in advance. This is subject to an assessment fee of NOK 22.50 per minute of film.

Attempts to sell and rent illegal films can result in the distributor being refused registration for a period. Distributors that attempt to register films that are assumed to violate Section 204 a (depictions that sexualise children) will be reported to the police.
