The Norwegian Media Authority has worked in partnership with Superponni and Level Up to produce CTRLZ, a series of documentaries on the challenges presented by computer games when it comes to harassment and bad behaviour.

The aim of CTRLZ is to raise awareness among young people and adults about why gender differences occur in computer games, and to help make this a safer, more inclusive arena for both sexes.

CTRLZ Episode 1 - The black holes.

The statistics are clear: harassment in gaming is a massive problem. In this episode of the CTRLZ series of documentaries, we highlight harassment in gaming, look at how important games and gaming environments are for players and discuss why so many people behave badly when gaming.

Have you experienced harassment or hate when gaming?

Here’s some advice:

  • Block any players who harass you
  • Report players who harass you
  • Talk to someone - e.g. parents, the school counsellor, the school nurse, friends, siblings.

CTRLZ Episode 2 - Make me a sandwich

Women who enjoy gaming experience much more toxic behaviour than men do. The harassment they face is more serious, and often gender-based. But why is that?

CTRLZ Episode 3 - On the hunt for the bastards

What responsibility does the gaming industry bear for eliminating toxic behaviour in games? Is the industry to blame? And what are they doing to change things?

CTRLZ Episode 4 - Now what?

Gaming is brilliant if you want to socialise and have fun while also enjoying lots of excitement. So what can we do about toxic behaviour in gaming? How can we improve the situation? And who can help change things?
